Acura was well aware of how most consumers use a sport utility vehicle when they decided to make the Acura RDX

. It is Acura's first compact crossover sport utility vehicle, originally shown off as only a concept car. It is focused much more intently on providing its customers with a vehicle that handles the turns on the open road than on providing an enjoyable off road experience. It mixes together the handling of a sport sedan with the all wheel drive and cargo room of a sport utility vehicle. While offering a fun ride, the RDX is slightly below par in terms of its practical use.

The current Acura RDX is a smaller luxury sport utility vehicle. The standard motor offers up 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of pulling power. A five speed transmission comes standard. The choice between front wheel drive and all wheel drive is yours. The Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD) is designed to transfer power from one wheel to another to avoid skidding. It also has Sport Shift capability, allowing the vehicle to be switched from automatic transmission to manual shifting. This is done using buttons on the steering wheel. It also offers the "sport" setting, which causes it to accelerate faster than when it is in "drive."

The RDX comes with heated leather seating, xenon headlights, a 260 watt audio system and six CD changer with USB port, leather seats, a rear view camera, and stability control. Optional features are a GPS navigation system, an upgraded A/C that adapts to the presence of sunlight, and a better sound system.

With great acceleration and handling, the RDX is a fun vehicle to drive. The sport centered approach of the RDX does have some drawbacks in terms of the "utility" in "sport utility vehicle." The passengers certainly have plenty of room, but it only offers up sixty one cubic feet of cargo space, which is small in comparison to most sport utility vehicles.
