The Aging Society: To Face Up The Challenges With Courage

It is well known that, China is now entering into an aging country

. Statistics issued by the government shows that in China is 13.26 percent of the population are over sixty years old by the end of the year 2010. Definitely, like in many other countries, the large aging population will bring more challenges to the government as well as to the people. However, every coin has two sides. Challenges in some cases imply chances.

As far as challenges are concerned, the following aspects deserve special attention. China, with its largest population in the world, should capital in all walks of life. If the proportion of elder peoples social security takes a lions share, comparatively, capital devotion is decreasing in other parts. This, of course, is unreasonable and may also bring a lot of social problems. The challenges are also unavoidable in hospitalization insurance aspects,. Based on the data issued by Ministry of Health, people who are over sixty years old are 3.2 time more like to suffer from chronic diseases than younger people. This portends, with the worsening aging situation, expenditure in all areas in enlarging. What worsens the situation is that medical resources are insufficient and imbalanced. All these factors contribute to the public, especially the elders sigh with an examination: medical care is so difficult to get! in pension services aspect, the equipments are gravely outdated. The elder people, with their body partly damaged need care and nurse. An investigation shows that 5 percent of elder people have a wish to live in the almshouse. However, in current situation, China can only offer such chances to 1.17 percent of the elder people. This is rally a big challenge to the society.

At the same time, the aging situation also bring a host of chances to China. Although we have to face up with so many challenges, we should have confidence that by perfecting the welfare systems and renovating the present model to take care of the aged, we can also create more chances. For example, we can build more seniors' homes and improve the facilities in them. The aged should also change their traditional views of being aged: to be old is not equal to be useless. As senior citizens, they have made great contribution to the society when they are younger and they are experienced, thus they can still do some good to the society by participating in the society.

In a word, since it can not be avoided that we should live in an aging society, we should face up with it with more courage as well as more wit.
