Today, color enhanced diamonds are produced by combining irradiation and annealing process. Several irradiation methods are used to enhance the color of diamonds including neutron and electron bombardment. The neutron irradiation can result in residual radioactivity but the electron bombardment is absolutely safe without having any chance of inducing radioactivity. We use only the electron bombardment method for enhancement.

After irradiation, the diamond is taken through the process known as annealing. During this process, the stone is superheated to temperatures above which the carbon atoms making the crystal lattice are altered to re-crystallize the diamond. During this process, the defects to the crystal structure introduced by irradiation are corrected and the color introduced by irradiation is enhanced. The final color of the stone is determined by the changes to its crystal structure as well as the temperature and duration of the annealing process.
