The TV technology is rapidly changing in recent times

Liquid Crystal Display or LCD screens were first seen on computers. Later it was also used as cell phones, cameras and TVs. The display of this technology works by a crystal liquid solution being squeezed in between two pieces of polarized glass. When connected to electricity, this crystal starts moving and this way the images appear.

Light Emitting Diode or LED uses LED lights for backlighting the TV but uses LCD screen. Some TVs also use sets of florescent tubes to illuminate the pixels. The result is a way clearer, lively and colorful picture quality. This makes viewing pleasurable and comfortable. These TV sets are thinner than LCD and sometimes may be only an inch thin.

Environmentally, LCD TVs are considered harmful as they use mercury which is unsafe for the environment. The power consumption of LED TVs are also much lesser than LCD TVs, which means lesser contribution to the ever-growing electricity bills. So, both ways LED TVs are more eco-friendly The contrast levels of LCD TVs are of poorer quality compared to LED TVs. For this reason fast moving images tend to get blurred on the former while has brilliant clarity on the later.

As LED is the latest invention, it has a huge price difference compared to the LCD sets. Though the price gap is gradually bridging up but still a LED set costs almost 50% more than a LCD TV.
