The habit of today's home construction teams to place plastic instead of wooden cabinets in new homes doesn't please many buyers

. The new owners oftentimes spend a lot more money to replace cabinetry with the more versatile and longer lasting wooden cabinets and shelf systems. It may be more simple and more cost effective to specifically request wood in the first place.

One reason is the absolute beauty of real wood which can be stained to match any decor the owner chooses. The marvelous eye-catching detail of the grains running through properly cut hardwoods are ever pleasing to the eye. The lifetime of these wooden cabinets far exceeds anything manufactured from plastic. Homeowners want cabinets to last thirty years, not the five years it may be for plastic cabinetry.

A solid shelf system offers solid construction. There are not flimsy door fronts that rattle when moved. Dove-tailed drawers that do not swell and change shape are preferable to those held together with metal L-brackets that pull out of the softer materials in a matter of months.

Cost is often the target of those who push plastic over wood. Although it can be costly to do a kitchen in all wooden cabinets, the one-time cost is something to be looked at closely. This is a purchase that will be installed and used for the lifetime of a home, not replaced every five years as it is for the cheaper cabinet systems. Quality still costs today as it always has. Quality still pays off in the long run, just as it always has.

This is needed for the proper storage and organization of a well-stocked kitchen, which any cook will attest to. One must be able to find the items needed to prepare a good meal. A well-built spice cabinet is a must have.

In order to properly organize a kitchen, four things are needed. First and foremost is a proper shelf system designed to hold the many items. Second is a system that works for the owner's needs, be it open front, closed front or pull-out shelves. The third thing it needs is to be of proper height and width to maintain kitchen items, all of which can be found by properly measuring and using adjustable shelving. The last thing needed is simply a desire to have a kitchen that is organized for the owner, not the designer's preference.
