At the 2002 Detroit Motor Show Volvo launched the Volvo XC90; it is a medium sized luxury crossover SUV
. It is based on the same platform as the large Volvo S80 and other large Volvo models in the range. The XC90 was the best selling Volvo model in the USA; in 2005 it became the best selling Volvo in the world.
The first generation XC90 was available in two trim levels, the 2.5T and the T6. The 2.5T was the entry level model and came with a 2.5 litre turbo charged 20 valve petrol engine, it has an output of 210 bhp. The T6 had a 2.9 litre 24 valve engine with 272 bhp. The entry level model was available as two wheel drive as well as all wheel drive, the T6 was only offered with all wheel drive. Later in 2005 the engine range was updated, and a V8 was added to the range. The Yamaha V8 is a 4.4 litre engine with 292 bhp, which was later increased to 311 bhp.
In 2007 the used Volvo in Northampton received a cosmetic face-lift. As well as an upgraded front and rear, the interior was modernised. At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show Volvo unveiled the latest incarnation of the XC90. Volvo has refined the exterior and interior to add sophistication and refinement of materials.
On the outside the updated XC90 has day running light configuration with LEDs in the lower bumper. The metallic bumper bar has been redesigned and is joined by silver roof rails, now included as standard across the range. There is a new lower door moulding with all XC90 models are now colour-coded.

The spacious and flexible crossover combines excellent handling and comfort with superior get-you-there ability and flexibility. Now we have upgraded the XC90 with a number of features that emphasise the large SUV's unique blend of sophisticated elegance and capable ruggedness."
