The Best Way To Repair My Shingle Roof

My neighbor suggested that I call a contractor to repair my shingle roof

. Being a single mom has its challenges, but every challenge is an opportunity to learn something new. I have learned so much about cars, washing machines, and plumbing over the years.

To be honest, I never really gave too much consideration to my roof. It was not leaking, so to me the roof was never a problem. Once again, I have set out to learn something new, this time it is roof repair.

I learned that every time you go through a patch of rough weather, you need to inspect your roof for possible damage. This means wind, hail, ice, or snow. You roof should also be inspected after a long spell of hot dry weather.

When a storm comes through, the first thing you look for is pieces of shingles or flashing on the ground. Flashing is sheet metal that is installed at any break in a roof, such as a fireplace or air vent. If you see any pieces of the roof on the ground then you definitely need to repair it.

Damage to your roof

Wind can literally tear the shingles right off your roof. This can leaves gaps where the shingles are supposed to overlap and keep the water out. Hail can loosen and erode the granules on the surface of shingles. Over time, loss of granules is normal, but is you see a lot collected around the downspouts, you need to call a roofing company to come out and inspect your roof.

You may not see immediate damage, but it can cause further damage to your roof at an accelerated rate. Hail can cause dimples on the roof shingles, and dents in the roof flashing, the dimples are more than cosmetic, it could mean that your shingles' ability to remain waterproof has been compromised.

Regular maintenance of roofs

It is time to call the roofing company for inspection and repairs, but first, it is related to storm damage, you should call your insurance agent. Most storm damage is covered by your homeowners insurance, so give them a call to make that determination.

I will have to find a reputable and trustworthy roofing contractor. A roofing contractor will have to become part of my regular maintenance program for my roof. When you think about it, the roof is one of the most important parts of the house. If the roof fails to do its job, so much damage can be absorbed by the rest of the house.
