Motorola have launched their new Defy handset

, which is available on all major networks. This Android smartphone focuses much attention on its durability, which is an attractive feature besides the phones impressive list of facilities.

What the Motorola Defy manages to do is produce what is effectively a tough phone, but one that retains the look of an everyday handset. past attempts at more robust models from the likes of Nokia have been chunky, rubberised affairs, but that is not the case here. In fact looking at the phone, the only real clue to its extra strength is the series of screws set along each side of the model. Other features cannot be seen, but certainly work very well. The screen comprises of a special material named Gorilla glass. This glass, which is used on high speed trains, has remarkable scratch resistant properties, and when you test this, the results are superb. The strength that the screws provide is illustrated when you attempt to drop the phone on a variety of surfaces, as you would expect the phone emerges unscathed. And should you be looking to use the handset outside in the rain, the water resistant properties will really work in your favour. The Defy, despite everything mentioned above, retains the look of a modern and stylish smartphone. The glossy black finish is attractive, and the overall dimensions 107 x 59 x 13.4mm are large enough to accommodate a good sized screen, but yet compact enough to compete with rival models such as the HTC Desire.

A very high quality screen can be found on the Motorola Defy, which arguably eclipses all of its rivals apart from the iPhone 4 which boasts the unparalleled Retina display. The screen measures 3.7" and is a TFT touchscreen panel utilising capacitive technology. The size of the display is perfect for viewing your own photographs and videos. Still shots can be captured on the phone at a resolution of 5 mega pixels. This feature is accompanied by an autofocus as well as an LED flash. A less common feature which really benefits this device is the image stabilisation that helps you take an even clearer photograph. If you wish to film video footage, the Defy enables this at VGA quality with a frame rate of 30 per second. this is slightly less than on rival models such as the Samsung Omnia 7, yet should not be an issue unless you plan on using the phone for filming regularly.

The Motorola Defy perfectly blends a strengthened handset with a smartphone, where as typically this type of model not only looked ugly but also lacked features, whereas this could not be further from the truth with this impressive new handset.
