The Custom Like Button A Spammers Prayers Answered?

So Facebook has its new Like button; pretty soon every website on earth is going

to feature that button that any Facebook subscribers can press on, to share their approval of that page with their friends. The Like tool also shows you pictures of all your Facebook friends who happen to like that page. Facebook is making it as easy as possible for any webmaster; they just add an iFrame piece to their html to enable it. And they can use an easy wizard, and place the embed code within, the way people have done all these years to add a Youtube Flash player. But is there any chance though that people can be made to click that button to report they like a website theyve never even visited?

The iFrame code basically lets you use any URL; it doesnt really know what webpage it is embedded on. Facebook Connect had cross-domain browser security that made this impossible. The Like button though, takes no such measures. The button would just have to be programmed in the wizard to point to a website that the user is not really on. Imagine a lowlife spammer who makes a reasonably good website, and places a custom Like button on it. The button actually reports to Facebook that another website, a spam-filled one hes made, is liked. When someone presses on it, it reports not that she likes that particular reasonable website, but that she likes that spammy website that the Like button actually reported to Facebook about. Or you could use other spammer formulae such as the use of overlays to sell your click on a regular respectable webpage to a spam page.

And then all your friends will suddenly discover lots of spam that tries to sell them laptops, cheap Rolex watches and tooth whiteners. Is there any way that a spammer would leave a loophole such as this alone? If you do find that youve been tricked this way and your Facebook Newsfeed has a permanent record of your mistakes, you can click the button a second time, to unLike it.
