Some aged persons are living alone in their home

. It may be because their spouse had died, or their adult children are living at a distance, and may be they are just alone. You cant keep away the fact, that when someone aged, one may become weak and may have a condition that may affect the physical functioning.

Other aged persons are not able to perform simple activities in everyday, unless when given assistance by someone. It is a big deal if an aged person would live on her/his own alone. Some homeless elders are sent to an assisted living facility or a nursing care home for full time care and for assistance.

But some elders, prefers to live on their own alone. In this event, these elders are more at risk in injuring themselves. Falls are one of the biggest injuries that commonly happen to an elder. When an alone aged person stumbles on the staircase and fall, there would be no one to rescue him/her, especially if the elder fell with a deep impact. If you are going to leave your aged parents at home, be sure that you put on handrails on the staircase, grips at the toilet and carpets that are well-fixed.

Intake of wrong medication may also be happen when an aged person is alone at home. Its not a surprise to us if we hear stories about aged persons who misplace their things. It is a normal phenomenon in elders. Other elders who may be taking two or more medications in a day might also get mixed up. They may also forget special appointments for check-up at the clinic. To make certain that they may not commit under or over dosage or being mixed up. Make a chart that is tabulated, put the name of the drug, the needed dosage and time that it is going to be taken up.

Though living alone may be a great thing, may promote their sense of independence and freedom, these aged persons are at high risks. Especially with an alone aged person with dementia or Alzheimers, they may wander around the house, may go out and leave their dwelling places. This may become an opening the potential for further injuries and confusion.

To minimize the potential of your aged parents to be hurt, choose a facility that would assist and help them.
