The Days Are Hot And The Nights Are Cool In Seville

Come to Seville in the summer and see what the fuss is all about

. And that is when you will discover that in Seville, the days are hot and the nights are cool in more ways than one.

It's Hot and Perfect for Siesta

In Seville, when people say it is hot outside, you can bet your bottom peso that it is indeed hot outside. This all too-true in August when the temperature rises to 40 degrees Celsius from 10 in the morning until Mother Nature decides that it is time to give Seville a break.

If you think that that temperature is the killer, you should know that in August of 2003 temperatures rose to 52 degrees Celsius - yes, it was that hot. And what do you do when it is hot in Seville? You stay indoors in your holiday apartment to preserve your sanity - sleep, eat and just ride out the heat. Or as the Spanish will have it, take your siesta. And speaking of holiday apartment, you should book it online before going into Seville in the summer. You do not want to melt in the heat looking for accommodations.

Now, if the temperature allows for sightseeing, then head to the waters. Rent a paddle boat to tour the Guadalquivir or cruise the river on a larger riverboat, either of which can be followed by a drink at one of the riverside bars.

Or you can just stay indoors in one of the Arab baths in the city. Go to Aire de Sevilla to enjoy the baths of different temperatures and various types of massages followed by delicious food at the teteria and breathtaking views of the city on the rooftop terrace. Now, that is the good life in the hot Seville summers.

Enjoy the Cool Nights and Waters

Fortunately, it becomes cooler at night. You can then walk around the city starting at 6 in the evening when the shops are all open. Siesta time is generally between 2 to 5 in the afternoon with all, and we mean all, shops, stores and banks closed to the public.

You should see the Plaze de Espana at night when the buildings are all lit up, which makes for great touristy pictures. And then afterwards, go to a tapas bar to enjoy the company of friends over excellent food and beer - the truly Spanish combination that will make anyone forget the heat of the day.

You must also taste the nightlife at the Calle Betis in Triana. You can choose from a variety of bars, discotheques and tapas bars, all serving drinks to quench your thirst borne of the hot days. Order a pitcher of Agua de Sevilla, which just so happens to be the city's trademark thirst quencher made from four champagne, liquor, cream and pineapple juice.

Seville may be hellish during the day, no thanks to its bone-searing heat. But in the night, things cool down just enough to let everybody come out into the open to enjoy until the sun comes up at 6 a.m.
