Because the directories have page ranking already you get to ride that wave, if you know what I mean. It's ingenious really and helps a totally new person get their article on the first page of Google.
Pay per click marketing is where you place ads with a company like Google and they will place them depending on the amount you would be willing to invest per click. The more you're willing to pay per click the better your chances your article will have more exposure.
