The Diverse Culture of Malaysia

Malaysia is great for beaches, long stretches of soft sand

, with verdant vegetation behind and endless blue seas before them caress the islands, perfect for a spot of sun worshipping, or lying back in a hammock with a good book and a cocktail. However, should you wish to have a brief or extended foray into the sea, Malaysia is ideal for snorkelling and diving with superb coral, fish, wrecks, turtles and much more.

Mount Kinabalu is another Malaysian must see, with a staggering amount of biodiversity and endemic species, every trip you are almost guaranteed to see something you've never seen before. With somewhere between 5000 to 6000 species of flora, including 800 species of orchid, the vegetation is out of this world, especially the insectivorous pitcher plants, some of which are found nowhere else. The hike to Lows Peak is hard though requires no mountain climbing, but the view from the top is spectacular, due to its national park status, all tourists must be accompanied by a guide.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and sits at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak Rivers, it is home to a diverse culture and architectural styles and during the month of July it is also celebrating the Kuala Lumpur Festival. Take part in activities and watch performances at a range of locations including the KL Tower, the Petronas Twin Towers and the central market. It also has an array of shopping opportunities, great nightlife and lush parks.

Along with the Kuala Lumpur Festival there is also the Malaysia Contemporary Arts Festival which also takes place in KL during July and is a great coming together of artists to showcase their art work in whatever form it takes. There are exhibitions, installations, seminars each showcasing a different form of art whether it is photography, sculpture, digital art or paintings. There is also the annual Formula One Grand Prix that comes to the Sepang International circuit in KL every year and with it a host of international visitors and a lot of excitement.

The nature evident in Malaysia is just astounding, a visit to the Sungai Leban area will leave you in a state of amazement, sat on your private boat, the sounds of nature surrounding you, you can't help but gaze in wonder at the magical gently flickering lights of the fireflies. Visit the echoing 370 metre long cave of Gua Kelam near the small town of Kaki Bukik for a guided walk through or stay out in the sunshine at the Batang Ai National Park and spot protected animals in the foliage.

A visit to Malaysia is a magical experience, so enjoy one or some of these great experiences on your Malaysia holidays.
