The Essential Guide To Promoting Your Blog

If you want to make money from a blog, it is essential that you promote it correctly

. Quite simply no traffic means no profit.

When looking at blog promotion I like to think of it as a spiders web - the more content, links, web pages etc. on the the web pointing at your blog the better.

There are hundreds of ways to promote a blog, bu tthis my essential selection!

1. Content - When it comes to blogs, content is king, the more often you update your blog the more often Google will crawl it, simply as that.

2. Ping - Hopefully you have used WordPress (not blogger) - make sure you include a decent ping list in the WordPress settings.

3. Submit your blogs RSS feed to at least 20 RSS directories (there is software available for this)

4. Social Bookmarking - Submit your blog posts to at least 20 social bookmarking sites (there is software available for this)

5. Linking Strategy - A good linking strategy is crucial - aim for a mix backlinks from the following: other relevant blogs, forums, social networks, article directories, relevant websites with PR4+, cross links from your own blog, quality link directories. A search on Google will lead you to a number of services that enable you to outsource your linking strategy, but always remember that one-way are preferable and use keyword rich (but varied) anchor text where possible.

6. Article Marketing - Ezinearticles.com is the big daddy of article directories, submit unique articles. You'll be able to leverage the traffic on ezinearticles.com and leverage it's PR for a possible frontpage listing for your articles. Use an article distribution service for other article directories, these services will submit your articles to around 1000 websites.

7. Social Networks - You can tap into the traffic of large social network sites - create Web 2.0 pages on sites such as Squidoo and WikiDot or put videos on YouTube or micro blog on Twitter.

8. Build a list - Put an opt-in form on your blog and then market to that list.

9. Forum Marketing - Search for relevant forums and join the discussion, but don't be spammy!

10. PPC - Paid search networks such as Google, Yahoo and Bing are a fantastic way to generate quick traffic.

If you do ALL of the above on a regular basis you are guaranteed to generate big traffic over time. Always try and focus on relevance when promoting your blog, it will produce better quality traffic which always converts better!
