The Expanding Universe Of Android
When Google's executives project their company's future things must be quite rosy
as overall the future for their smart phone operating system the Android platform is exceptional. However, if one does not want to go this far, one would still have to acknowledge that things are a lot better for the Android OS than 2 years ago when Google launched their smart phone software. There was only one phone that would support it and there weren't many applications available.
Within the keynote presentation there were some very impressive stats brought forward.
*100,000 brand new activations of an Android system every day
*50,000 new purchases in the Android Market ever day
The Google team also demoed the new version of the Android software. Many are arguing that this is a major breakout for Android and a larger technological leap that there mere version number of 2.2 indicates.
Here are some of the more interesting and exciting things that were offered within a bundle of new updates that were outlined by Google:
*Much faster performance
*Flash support - While it's true that Adobe Flash can sometimes be stupid and seem somewhat evil but sometimes you just have to watch a video or use some type of an interactive widget
*Backup built in to the platform
With all of the good things being said about 'Froyo' perhaps the biggest turn off will be that one will have to contact one's cell phone carrier/service supplier and see if the carrier is going to be getting the upgrade. Many aren't right away and HTC for example is stating that all cell phones shipped in 2010 will more than like get the upgrade but only those in the second half of the year.
Froyo offers far greater battery life and this should have been one of the features that was advertised.
Down the hall from the keynote address was a glass case filled with cell phones and tablet computers which all run the Android software. An impressive demonstration of just how far and quickly the Android software has come. One could view the current hardware and was also given a glimpse into the future from countries/areas such as:
*Sony
*Samsung
*LG
*HTC
*Motorola
The one thing that seems really safe to say is that if there's not an Android phone that is in the size and the shape that you want it there will be one soon. Even if it doesn't match every single feature requirement or even do everything as elegant as the iPhone.
Verizon iPhone or not however, there is plenty to be looking into on the Google Android hardware side of things.
