You can only use each action once during your round, though the amount of family members that you have in your family in the game determines how many actions you may be allowed to do.

Additionally, the players are given two sets of cards. The first set is for occupations and the other set is for improvements for members or the farm in the game. These cards can be used to your advantage during game play. Overall, there are actually 139 improvements that can be made and 169 occupations. This allows the game to be different every time it is played.

As your family grows during game play, you will have more actions to take. This will allow you to gain things such as vegetables or animals. When a couple of rounds have passed, it is then time for the harvest turn. During this turn, crops can be harvested and the family can be fed. Animals can also breed for more animals. If these things are not done and the family is not fed during the turn, then it will affect the end result negatively for the farm of that player.

There are also many expansion packs for the game. This allows the game to be enjoyed on many different levels and takes the experience to another high. These add on packs may give different cards, In example, you might use an expansion pack that would allow for houses to be heated or horses to be bred in the game. This can affect game play and make it easier or more challenging.

Recently in New Zealand, the game was released with special editions. Some of these releases could allow for different game play. The amount of sheep that were allowed during game play was one option, and also rules regarding harvesting changed. However, this was not applied to all of the games that were released.
