The Fighter Movie Is The Highlight Of His Career - Says Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg is very excited about his new upcoming movie "The Fighter", which is to be released in December 2010.

The movie is based on boxer Micky Ward from Lowell, Massachusetts. Ward, also known as "Irish", is best known for the three fights against the late Arturo Gatti. "Irish" had phenomenal 14-0 start for his professional boxing career, but retreated from the ring for three years, after streak of losses in the early 1990s. The comeback took place in 1994, again with the "bang". Ward had nine fights win streak right from the start, and got his chance to hit against higher caliber opponents.

Wahlberg is a natural choice for this role, because he's life has very similar start to the life of the "Irish". It was a rough, up from the streets type of growing up process, so he can get to the character better than most of the other actors otherwise suitable. Micky Ward was also his idol while growing up, so it must have been one of a kind experience, to be able to work with the "Irish", who was one of his instructors for getting physiques right for "The Fighter".

One of the Wahlberg's co-stars in "The Fighter" is Amy Adams, who was supposed to act in "The Happening". However, Adams decided to pass that production and her place was taken by Zooey Deschanel. In recently held press conference for "The Fighter", Wahlberg didn't speak very highly about "The Happening"; it seems that Amy Adams made the right choice:

"It was a bad movie that I did. She dodged the bullet," he said. "F*****g trees, man, the plants. F**k it. You can't blame me for wanting to try to play a science teacher. You know? I wasn't playing a cop or a crook."
