The Fijian Museum- acquainting visitors with the Fijian lifestyle

Located in Fiji's Suva region, the Fiji Museum is a tourist venue that has many visitors throughout the year. The museum itself could be found amidst the beautiful setting of the Thurston Garden. The city's most noted botanical garden. The museum is home to an extensive range of archaeological items which goes all the way back to the time of Fiji's cultural beginnings. An attraction among foreign tourists to the Fiji Museum is the opportunity to be able to catch a glimpse of the rudder of HMS Bounty fame.

As a statutory body, the Fiji Museum comes under the purview of the Fiji Museum Act as well as the act which looks to preserve objects and paleontological interests of Fiji. The museum has a collection of artifacts that represent the Fijian way of life, and serves to give visitors to the museum a comprehensive look at the country's history as well as its beginnings.

Being one of the main museums in the country, its layout was clearly planned by the Fijian society from all the way back in 1908. The society itself was established with the aim of preserving the culture of this island nation. So much so that the first bits of archaeologically valuable items were donated by locals, and since a venue to display the items hadn't been conceived yet, the items were viewed at the Town Hall.

However the real seeds of a beginning for Fiji's popular museum were planted when Sir William Allardyce donated his collection of artifacts in 1904 to the Town Board of Suva. Since then that collection together with many others put together over the years have found their permanent home in 1972 at the city's Botanical Gardens.

The museum offers many beautiful attractions with galleries to grab the attention of visitors. A good place to begin at the museum would be the Taukei Gallery which boasts of some interesting pieces associated with religious significance, that date back to the time of the island's pre historic days.

The Fijian Barkcloth gallery is another interesting gallery that visitors should not miss out on. What's unique about the gallery is that the items on display have been put together with the use of bark cloth. It's an amazing display of non woven clothing items.

What would make a trip to Fiji even more exciting aside from its amazing sites? Checking into one of the many Fiji island resorts. Among the more popular Fiji luxury resorts the Shangri La's Fijian Resort and Spa Yanuca Fiji Islands offers a picturesque escape to a location in the South Pacific.
