The Garden Of Eden
I love the Bible, for it is filled with great mysteries and fantastic places
. As I travel and make my way through this great book, I constantly find myself surprised and delighted; for I continue to come upon special places that continues to catch my minds eye. One of these places that I would like to introduce you to, is called "The Garden of Eden," for it was one of the most magnificent; majestic and beautiful places that God had ever created.
"Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he had put the man he had formed. And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground -- trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold." Genesis 2:8-11
As this particular passage took me around the Garden of Eden, I would see how the main river would be divided into four different rivers. From out of these four rivers, we are already told of the one called Pishon. The other two that were located within this great water system were called - the Euphrates and Hiddekel, also known as the Tigris. The fourth river from out of this marvelous wonder would be called Gihon, which is also known as the Nile. I point this out, so that we are careful to not confuse it with the Gihon River that's located in the land of Israel. For this is a different one, that is of a greater magnitude
The scriptures also pointed out the places in which these rivers flowed, for one would be called Ethiopia. But keep in mind that this land called Ethiopia, must not be confused with the one that is found in modern day Africa. For it's believed that this land, here mentioned in the scriptures; was probably located within the lands of ancient Arabia. The other place that's mentioned would be known as Assyria, while the last place that had been recorded would be called Havilah. Notice that the passage goes in a greater detail when it comes to one of these places? For the scripture takes the time to point out some of the special resources that Havilah had.
"The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also there." Genesis 2:11-12
As the passages took me further into this awesome place, I would be introduced to two different kinds of trees. But these wouldn't be your ordinary type of trees, for they served and provided extraordinary benefits for the human race. One of these trees was called -- The Tree of Life. The Bible leads us to believe, that its main benefit would allow mankind to achieve some type of immortality.
The second tree was called -- The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This particular tree was believed to be good for food that was very pleasing to the eye. But it also provided another invaluable benefit, for it allowed a person to have the ability to increase tremendously when it came to having some sort of divine wisdom. To prove just how valuable and luring this wisdom benefit was to mankind, all we have to do is look no farther than the recorded account of Adam and Eve. For this Biblical record would inform us on how Adam and Eve would lose there esteemed positions from within the Lord's wonderful creation, when they had made up their minds to ignore God's warning and to seek after this so-called divine wisdom.
Adam and Eve were able to enjoy all that the Garden of Eden had to offer, but when it came to this particular tree; they were warned to stay away. Adam and Eve didn't heed to this warning and so therefore they gained the knowledge of the world, but lost the path to eternal paradise. At times we forget just how privilege we are, when it comes to being able to play a role in God's magnificent creation. For we continue to seek after the knowledge of this limited world, instead of learning all we can; when it comes to walking the path back to eternal paradise.
