The Gucci Family Feud For Money (1)

The first generation: Guccio Gucci (1881-1953) began from a small leather shop in 1920s

The beginning of the story was similar with other luxury brands, whose founders were mostly poor but ambitious young men. In 1898, the 18 year-old young man Guccio Gucci left home penniless after having a fight with his brother. Later, he came to London and worked in a hotel called Savoy, a place full of wealthy and powerful nobles. In Savoy, Guccio had shown strong interests in the luxurious suitcases and hat boxes that were printed with the abbreviations of the owners names. He began his business relatively late. At the age of 40, Guccio opened his own first leather shop in Viadella Vignal Nuova, Florence, where sold different kinds of luxuries.

Guccio had four children, three sons and one daughter. He led his three sons to his company in charge with the management work. In order to encourage the improvement and competence of his sons, Guccio deliberately provoked them into fighting, making them envy and hate each other. Outside of these, he excluded his daughter while distributing his estate. He did not know that it was his arrangements that caused the family feud later.

The second generation: Aldo Gucci (1905-1990) Gucci rise to glory: a luxury empire from Milan to Hollywood

The real glory of Gucci actually started from the second generation Aldo, who opened its branches in Paris, London and Beverly Hills.

At the age of 20 Aldo started to work as a hodman in his fathers store. Though he never received high education, he was quite astute and sharp-sighted, full of enthusiasm and dare to take risks. On the development of the company, Guccio managed it steadily while Alod tended to expand the scale. At the first 17 years, Guccio had only one store in Florence to maintain the rich and steady living standard for the family.
