The HTC Desire has a processor with 1 GHz of power allowing it to power the Android operating system, and multiple applications at once through the Sense user interface and experience. The handset also features a 5 megapixel auto focus camera and internal GPS for the Footprints navigation app, among other location based services.

The handset has Bluetooth 2.1 with enhanced data rate and a microUSB connection for syncing either wirelessly or quickly with other devices such as a PC. The A2DP profile for the Bluetooth also allows you to connect wirelessly to a Bluetooth stereo headset or to a Bluetooth connected stereo system to hear the music on your handset wirelessly. Alternatively you can simply use standard headphones through the 3.5mm audio jack. As well as the Music app for all of your music, there is also an integrated FM stereo radio allowing you to enjoy live music form your handset too.

The Desire features a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with a flash also present, as well as face detection and widescreen photo capture (16:9 ratio). The handset has integrated Facebook and Flickr allowing you to quickly and easily share your photos, and also YouTube for videos which you create with the camera. Media can also be watched back on the handset with the Photos application. The Peep widget makes tweeting easier, while a full Twitter app is also present, alongside the Friend Stream app which combines your friends with their photo alongside any latest Facebook updates, tweets or messages between you.

The phone runs the Android 2.1 Eclair operating system with HTC Sense user interface for enhancement and further experience, including the provision of many widgets straight out of the box, plus the ability to download more to the handset, which also offers up to 7 home screens for you to customise with different themes, widgets and shortcuts. The phone is powered by a 1 gigahertz processor along with 576 megabytes of random access memory, in addition to 512 megabytes of read only memory. The mass storage for your handset is provided through the expandable microSD card slot however.
