In extreme cases, sufferers must limit fresh fruit due to its high natural sugar content.

Instead of eating processed meals, people are advised to include more fruits and vegetables in their diet. Such a diet will strengthen the body's immune system to defend against a candida outbreak. Since sugar is a friend of candida, care should be taken to select fruits that do not have a high sugar content. Citrus fruits such as lemons, grapefruit, and limes are safe choices. Uncultured dairy should be avoided. Fermented foods, like sauerkraut, tempeh, and miso, are all beneficial for keeping levels of yeast low. Furthermore, fibrous foods such as buckwheat, brown rice, and millet, along with meat that has not been treated with antibiotics, are good sources of protein and carbohydrates that make up a healthy diet for combating candida.

In preparing meals, candida sufferers should use ingredients such as garlic, ginger, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, and oregano oil. Dishes strongly flavored with spices such as ajwain seeds, coriander, and cloves also clear the system of toxins.

Barberry, Oregon grape root, and goldenseal have also been known to be effective as a yeast infection treatment. These contain berberine that fights yeast infections.
