Millions of people around the world have a one night stand at some point in their lives

. It's just a fact of life. But did you know that last month one of those millions who admitted doing so was none other than Harry Potter himself? Well, okay, the actor who played Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe. He also admitted to feeling a little awkward after sleeping with some Harry Potter groupies because "You know, you're going to have to talk to them afterwards, even if it is a one-night stand." And here we thought he could just disapparate. Let's shed a little "lumos maxima" on one night stands, shall we?

Many people describe their one night stands as the most erotic and exciting sexual experiences of their lives. Part of what makes a one night stand so thrilling is the fact that you're having sex with someone you just met. Unfortunately having a one night stand is like playing Russian roulette with your sexual health because that stranger might just be loaded with one or more STDs.

Yep, a night of fantasy sex, even with a wizard, puts you at risk for STDs like Chlamydia, genital herpes, gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS, HPV (Human Papillomavirus) and syphilis. And if you were one of those Harry Potter groupies, you'd have to wonder how many muggles he slept with before he slept with you. Since many STDs are asymptomatic, meaning they show no symptoms, he and the other muggles with whom he slept, may have had no idea they had an STD, unknowingly spreading STDs to each other.

And of course no one in the middle of a one night stand wants to discuss sexual history with their partner. That would spoil the mood. Yet it's exactly the information you need to make an informed decision about having sex with this incredibly attractive person you just met. Would you still want to have unprotected sex with someone if you found out they had Chlamydia or gonorrhea? No? Good choice, because if left untreated, Chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause infertility. Would you still have sex with an attractive stranger who looked just like George Clooney (or your favorite movie star after a few drinks) if you found out they had AIDS? Oh, yeah right, because the consequences of doing so is death! Yet this is what millions of people are doing and admitting to when they reveal that they've had one night stands.

Okay, okay, you're right, old habits die hard. Some people aren't going to top having one night stands, especially not sex addicts. But sex addict or not, you can at least engage in a one night stand safely by wearing condoms consistently and correctly. And you don't have to say a word. Putting one on can be a part of foreplay. Always carry several condoms in your purse or wallet in case one breaks. If one night stands are a regular part of your lifestyle, you should get tested for STDs regularly.

Before a stranger, or wizard, casts his spell, make sure you're prepared for a one night stand. A supply of condoms in your purse or wallet, along with regular STD testing, is the best ways to safeguard your sexual health.
