The History Behind Harley Motorcycles And Harley Motorcycle Parts.

It is hard to believe Harley Davidson motorcycles have been around for over a 100 years

. Harleys provide distinctive sound, which happens to be caused by their patented 45 degree angle V-Twin engine. Harleys are also one of only two American motorcycle brands to possess survived the great depression. They are also most likely responsible for the popular practice of customisation of motorcycles today. This new trend of custom chopper style motorcycles gained its birth within the style and theme of Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Harley Davidson Motorcycles may be the brainchild of William Harley. In early nineteen hundreds, Harley designed the first Harley Davidson motorcycle engine in Milwaukee Wisconsin. It took Harley along with a friend, Arthur Davidson, nearly 2 yrs to complete the design and construction. The engine they designed was 116 cc in size and would squeeze into an ordinary bicycle frame. Unfortunately, right after their motorcycle was completed, they realised that the motorcycle was not nearly powerful enough. The motorcycle disappointingly couldn't even recover it some of the moderate hills in the region. Although the design had failed, they saw this as a valuable learning experience.

They immediately began focus on a new design, having a larger, stronger engine. This new engine was 405 cc in dimensions and had bigger flywheels than the original. The two entrepreneurs used a loop frame design which was used by another Milwaukee motorcycle manufacturer, Joseph Merkel. With the development of this new design and the significant increase in engine size, the two young men found instant success. It was ground breaking and set the standard for motorcycles of this era. Although the majority of the parts were made elsewhere, this second generation Harley Davidson motorcycle was constructed and assembled in the backyard of the home from the Davidsons. The elder brother of Arthur Davidson, William Davidson, worked as a foreman in a tool-room at that time. He would have probably helped with the production of many of the parts for the motorcycle. In 1904, the functional prototype was applied for a race in Milwaukee in the state fair park. It placed fourth and was ridden by Edward Hildebrand. Within the historical record, this is the first documented appearance of the Harley Davidson motorcycle.

As a global brand, Harley has developed and grown beyond just motorcycles. You will find Harley Accessories ranging from Harley Davidson Apparel to Harley Davidson Helmets. Harley Davidson Apparel includes increasingly popular ranges of Harley Davidson Boots and Harley Davidson Clothing. There is also a growing demand for Harley Davidson Parts.
