Wellies are an extremely popular boot which is perfectly suitable for the great out doors for the UK weather

. Wellies have a few nick names such as; rubber boots, barnboots, muckboots, rainboots, wellingtons, womens boots and gummies. It was actually Arthur Wellesley the 1st Duke of Wellington who was a British soldier and statesmen who popularised the wellies in the 19th century.

Wellingtons dramatically boosted during World War 1 when a requirement for suitable footwear was needed for all of the soldiers fighting in the war. The North British Rubber Company which is now commonly known as Hunter which are the best known wellies around the world were contacted to produce a mass amount of boots for the soldiers. In total an outstanding 1,185,036 pairs of wellies were produced for the men as the wellies were low cost and water proof. This meant that the men could be comfortable and the British Army could provide the boots without forking out a hefty price for the masses of boots needed for all the men.

In 1945 the Wellington boots became even more popular and branched out into womens boots as well as with men not associated with the army and, children as they were the perfect boots to sport during rainy or snowy weather. Wellies are now made in multiple sizes, colours and patterns as they are the ultimate pair of shoes to take long walks in the mud and rain. Hunter wellies are the more common wellington boots as these are the ones that all the celebrities opt for. The likes of Kate Moss, Rachel Bilson, Prince William and Kate Middleton all own a pair of the jazzy wellies.

Hunter even teamed up with world wide designer fashion label to create some womens boots with a wellington twist which were a huge hit in the fashion industry. The latest womens boots to hit the fashion scene are the posh well boots which are designed by a brand called Lotus Shoes. These posh welly boots arent solely designed as a womens boot to wear just during the rainy weather. They are designed to look stylish and fashionable whilst keeping your feet dry and comfortable. This new craze will no doubt be a huge hit amongst women as ladies are obsessed with new shoes and styles and, it will only take one a-list celebrity to be spotted sporting a pair until the rest of the world wants them.
