The Htc Desire Runs Using The Android 2.1 (clair) Operating System

Aesthetically, this phone is a far cry from the full alloy Legend

, but the HTC Desire has the guts and performance to outshine its Android relation. The HTC Desire runs using the Android 2.1 (clair) operating system and shows off the wonderful HTC Sense user interface. A turbo speed 1GHz processor can be found under the hood along with a built in A-GPS receiver for navigational support. The device also utilises both Wi Fi and 3G for web connectivity with EDGE and GPRS for back-up. There is a digital camera capable of HD video and a full multimedia hub supported by a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones.

Despite not having the futuristic looks of the Legend, the Desire still looks modern and sophisticated, and it has the software to prove it. The beautiful, 3.7 inch WVGA (800 x 480) resolution screen is fully touch capacitive with multi-touch capabilities, it makes videos look gorgeous and web pages are displayed with extra clarity. The slim line design compliments the shape of your hand with a very slight curve at the bottom of the chassis and a smooth casing which is both grippy and comfortable to handle. The interface runs super slick over the Android platform, and the powerful CPU shoots you through pages and functions in record time. The Desire is packing seven home screens with three feature screens surrounding the default page, each screen can be customized with widgets. The live weather wallpaper is a nifty little feature, when its sunny out, your phone will display a nice clear day, when it rains a window wiper will clear the water drops from the screen. The phonebook on the Desire is brilliant; the amount of information you can add to one contact is unbelievable, you can link contacts to there Google account, e-mail and social network account, as well as there number.

The social network integration on this phone is very thorough, not only do you get dedicated applications, but you also get the previously noted phonebook integration and live streaming of messages, tweets and status updates direct to the screen within the FriendStream boundaries. The Twitter client; called HTC Peep is a direct application allowing you to tweet all day long without actually having to open the app. There are also other ways in which to stay in touch with friends in the Android Market; the many thousands of downloadable apps cover communications, gaming and media, but there are also some absolutely obscure features to download for those who like to experiment. Tons off messaging support has been thrown in; flipping the phone to landscape mode via the handy accelerometer opens up access to a very good QWERTY keyboard which is a nicer alternative to the simple T9 text option. Pre-installed support for POP e-mail, Exchange and instant messaging enriches the overall experience as a substitute to standard SMS and MMS. Equipped with a full web browser, the Desire boasts 3G network coverage and Wi Fi technology for speedy web connections. The browser is super quick and flash enabled which is great for the media heavy pages other smartphones may struggle with. The 5MP camera is very good and produces awesome stills and records video in HD, all your captured content can be uploaded to your social networks and also YouTube. As you would expect, the music player plays music and has support for FM radio, the video player can play many types of video file, including 3gp, wmv and mp4, and videos look spectacular on the high resolution screen. You can upgrade to memory to 32GB via the microSD slot, this is great for packing in your tunes, downloaded apps from the Android Market and HD videos.

The HTC Desire is the complete phone; it offers full smartphone functionality via a smooth interface and responsive touch screen. The camera rocks; and the social network integration is superb. This device has already seen fantastic unit sales in its first month, and as word carries I am sure its popularity will increase.
