The Htc Hd Mini-a Closer Look

HTC have unveiled there latest handset, the HTC HD Mini

. In what may prove a very wise move by the manufacturers, they have taken the well received HTC HD2, and shrunk everything down into a more pocket friendly size, but has this sacrifice of handset dimensions compromised the overall performance of the phone?

With the word "Mini" featured in the product name, most people are going to instinctively enquire as to the dimension of the phone. Measuring 103.8 x 57.7 x 11.3 mm and weighing 110 grammes, it is a neat and compact handset. HTC also seem to have done a good job of not trying to reduce this size further, thus making the screen smaller and less useable. The 3.2" screen works well, and is large enough to easily perform day to day functions as well as view media content. The screen is a capacitive touchscreen and responds very well to the user, and also it display a good quality resolution of 320 x 480 HVGA.

Behind the scenes, a very reasonable 600Mhz processor is used to run everything on theHTC HD Mini, and seems to handle multi tasking and day to day use very easily. The Mini features Windows Mobile as it operating system, immediately making it attractive to the window fans out there. However it isn't using the new Windows 7 platform, which isn't due for release until late 2010. Despite this the interface looks good and work incredibly well. This is also thanks in part to the HTC Sense user interface. This interface personalises everything about the phone and allows the user to have control of what they see and how they see it.

In addition to having 3G internet connectivity, WiFi is also included on the HD Mini, allowing for connectivity to not only your own personal router but also to various WiFi hotspots for a speedier and more enjoyable browsing experience. The browser used to view the internet is the successful Opera Mobile system. A host of other features are catered for as you would expect from the likes of HTC. A 5 million pixel camera with autofocus and widescreen photo capture is included as is Windows Media Player, allowing playback of all media files with audio formats including MP3, AAC and WMA and video formats MP4, WMV and AVI. A 3.5mm headphone socket is included if you desire to listen to this media content on your own choice of headphones. In terms of storage there is 512 MB on board but as is fairly customary now, a microSD slot allows for expansion up to 32GB.

The HTC HD mini looks set to take the market by storm. Its smartphone features coupled with is compactness is going to appeal to most users, and the HTC sense UI means every task the handset performs is easy on the eye too.
