The Hyundai Veloster, What A Car!
Every now and again a car is launched that makes you do a double take
. The Hyundai Veloster Sports Car definitely falls into this awe-inspiring category. Look closely from the one side its styled as a coupe, from the other as a sporty 2-door hatch. Though this might sound odd, Hyundai more than makes this daringly different design combo work. In fact, one wonders why no other automaker has thought of this before.
The Hyundai Veloster was first introduced to the world as a concept vehicle at the 2007 Seoul Auto Show and as a final production version at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Though its not yet available in South Africa, the trendy compact is rumoured to be heading to our shores in the not-so-distant future. With the launch of the Veloster sports car, Hyundai hoped to fill the gap left by the Tiburon that went out of production a few years ago and judging from the publics overwhelming reaction, its proving to be even more popular.
According to Hyundai, the Veloster was engineered for whatever, a description thats perfectly suited to its young and trendy target market. Its unusual asymmetrical 1+2 door concept provides a flawless blend of practicality and individuality. Sure its not for all, but for many its a strong personal statement that just makes sense. Its a crossover in every sense of the word, bringing together the best you can get from a hatch and a coupe.
Designers made the impossible not only possible with its unique door configuration, but perfected on it too. The Velosters aerodynamic design is evident in every detail. From the front youre met with a robust bumper which sports low set integrated fog lamps, a distinctive hexagonal-shaped radiator grille and sleekly profiled sporty air vents on the bonnet. The interior is as dynamic with its sports leather steering wheel and leather gearshift knob, as well as its motorbike-twin-tailpipe inspired instrument cluster and centre fascia.
Under the hood of the Hyundai Veloster hides a lightweight but rigid 1.6L GDI engine that produces power on demand, responsive handling and a quiet drive. It also offers a choice between a 6-speed manual and 6-speed dual clutch transmission. Other intelligent features that will make your drive in a Veloster even safer include Electric Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Brake Assist, Traction Control and a rear parking assist system. Plus, its in-car multimedia entertainment system, featuring a 7 LCD touch screen, lets you plug in pretty much any device and allows you to control it from the steering wheel.
When, where and how can you get your hands on a new Hyundai Veloster? Were hoping soon, at your nearest dealership. Watch the press!
