The Importance Of Social Media Marketing

A few years ago, when websites like Facebook and Twitter were in their infancy

, people viewed them as a means of staying in touch with friends (at no cost), and showing the world how cool, smart and funny there were!

It was called social networking

But then businesses got involved, and ruined it all!

Im only kidding, of course

Businesses didnt ruin social media. But they certainly changed it irreversibly.

But more importantly, social media has changed business.

You see, the last few years has witnessed a revolution in the way that businesses communicate and interact with their customer base.

And if your business hasnt yet cottoned on, then I can absolutely guarantee that youre leaving money on the table.

As a result, Id strongly advise you to register with sites like Facebook and Twitter, in particular, and give your business a social media presence. Along with YouTube, these sites are the most widely used, and therefore, your best line of attack for attracting new customers.

If you do, youll be able to attract people who are specifically interested in what YOU have to offer, give your products or services greater exposure, and publicize any special offers or discounts, for example, driving traffic towards your website and boosting sales.

Once youve set up your social media accounts, its important that you post quality content that provides value for your prospective customers. If you do this, then more people will follow you in the case of Twitter and more people will become your friend in the case of Facebook.

This will not only allow you to build up an online customer base, but it will also allow you to develop positive, long-term relationships with those customers, too.

And as any business owner knows, fostering loyalty is the key to longevity.

The more followers and friends you can attract, and the more you can encourage them to interact with you, the greater your chances of increasing your bottom line.

And this is very easy to do.

You see, both Facebook and Twitter allow you to search for potential customers in your niche, and then befriend them. To give you an example, Im a sales copywriter, and so I actively search for businesses and online entrepreneurs who might need my website or sales letter copywriting services, allowing me to build up a list of potential customers.

Another reason for signing up to social media sites is that doing so will give you the opportunity to follow whats being said about you and your business, and then quickly react should anything negative appear before it damages your reputation.

Unfortunately, the meteoric rise of social media sites has made it very easy for people to write anything they want, regardless of whether or not its true and then post that remark on social media sites where it can be seen by millions of people.

So its important that should anyone make a negative comment about YOUR business, youre able to spot it quickly and deal with it effectively, before it gets out of hand.

With that in mind, here are two very useful online tools that you can use to monitor whats being said about you and your company

Google Alerts and Social Mention These are two separate tools, but they essentially do the same thing. Simply type in a search term that apples to you and your business, like your business name, or the name of one of your products, for instance, and then whenever that term is mentioned on the internet, you will receive an email letting you know where it is, enabling you to track whats being said about your business, good or bad!

Once again, these tools are fantastic should someone post something uncomplimentary about you, your company, or your product, for example, because they allow you to deal with it quickly, before any negativity starts to circulate.

As a lowly sales and marketing copywriter, it has to be said that I havent received any negative comments on Twitter or Facebook, but I know of many business owners who have, and these tools have become very useful for them

So if youre looking to build your customer base and boost your profits, then be sure to sign up with social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and utilise Social Mention and Google Alerts to monitor whats being said about you, your company, and your products.
