The Inherent Problem with AI Internet Information Searching Queries
Have you ever had someone tell you: "Well it sounds like you've been reading all that liberal socialist trash, what do you do spend 5-hours a day reading the Huffington Post?" or "I bet you just love that FOX News and all those neo-con sound bites!" What they are telling you is that you have surrounded yourself with information which re-enforces your belief system, and won't consider the alternatives. Well, if you think those accusations hurt your feelings - what if they were actually true?
What if all you did was read only what fits into your belief system, or your current hobbies? And what if you did more and more of your reading online, on your iPad or cloned tablet? Well, if the search engines are using Artificial Intelligence to serve up another helping of your dog-food, how exactly are you going to learn new tricks? Not long ago, I was having this conversation with an acquaintance in Europe who complimented my on my articles which are always designed to make you think. Here is what they said:
"If you can make me think that something I believe is wrong, I'll change my belief.
That's a pretty good way to play it I'd say, but with new AI search engine techniques it may not be possible in the future. Here is what I do - I actually try to ignore the information which I agree with or would have already expected, and look for the anomalies that challenge it. This way I can scour and scan tons of information looking for red flags and ask WHY?
You see, I believe it's more important to ask the best questions than to know the approved version of what humans call knowledge and science. It takes a lot of imagination to do that, but it's funnier that way, and you don't get your mind in a pickle or boxed in. My acquaintance told me that: "Plus, I love to learn stuff. I am in love with books and the internet for this reason."
I explained that personally, I think that the Internet is cool, before the Internet I had to find information where ever I could, collecting books, research, checking out the libraries etc. Now, you just look up anything you want, it's great. But, have you noticed so much is repetitious, and I have trouble finding stuff that I don't already know, or have not already thought about, so I have to create new thoughts, and think about those.
Now then, what happens in the future when all information is delivered via the Internet, and all of your queries are geared towards your personal tastes, which will never change if the AI search feature continues to serve you Kiddles and Bits? So, please consider all of this.
