Pemba Island also known as the greens land is found on the Part of the Zanzibar archipelago that lie off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean
. The island had been independent until 164 when it was united with the former colony of Tanganyika to form Tanzania. It lies 50 kilometres east off the mainland of Tanzania. It has other partner island called Mafia Island and together they form Spice Islands. The island's population is around 265,000 People.
Pemba Island is accessible through sea transport or by air. The island famous for its rich fishing grounds. There is a deep 20 miles Pemba channel between the island and the mainland and its one of the most profitable fishing grounds for game fishing on the East Africa Coast. The area is also endowed with clove trees. There are about 3.5 million clove trees on the island and earn a lot of export revenue. The trees can produce for up to 50 years and grow up to 15 metres high.
Pemba Island does booming tourism business. The area has unspoiled beaches and coral reefs. They are loved by travelers because they are less crowded and have some of the best tourist resorts. The most notable towns in include Chake-Chake the capital, Wete the largest city and Mkoani. The area has some of the best preserved old building ruins. One such ruin is Ndagoni dated back to the 14th Century. There is also Mkama NDume Ruins at an area known as Pujini village and it easily accessed by a road from town called Chake-Chake.
