The Key Pendant

Very few people will disagree about the beauty of lovely key pendants

especially now that even a lot of celebrities are wearing it. And many still will feel a strong symbolism lying behind the key. One reason behind it is that the key is an object that we are in contact with everyday of our lives. We use the key in opening things that are locked and we also use it for locking up things we want to keep safe. And we also use it to start up thing like car engines. And maybe love too.

The key both in reality and its mystical sense, unlock and lock things. The key is a universal apparatus and symbol that has the opening and closing power. It also represents unlocking mysteries, and to many, love. In the Roman Catholic Church, the iconography of the key is associated with the Apostle Peter who is the keeper of the gates to heaven. A little further back in history, the Egyptians in ancient Egypt used the symbol Ankh, representing the key of life. Egyptians gods are portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest.

To lovers, it usually symbolizes the key for unlocking ones heart. The giving of a key jewelry to a loved one may symbolize the opening up of oneself to that person you love. For the girl wearing it, it may be like sending a message that there is a mystery inside her, a secret that has to be unlocked. It also symbolizes mystery, knowledge, power, wealth, access, recognition, and of course, love. Of course one may also wear it simply as a show piece or a statement of fashion.

It seems that the beauty, charm, and mystery of key pendants and jewelry are now well accepted. But one question still remains. If a brass or a steel key can open locks and doors, think what will a beautiful key made of gold or fine sterling silver will do? It may open up someones heart, a new horizon, or start up an engine of a beautiful relationship.
