The Link Between Stress and Dyspepsia and What To Do About It
Dyspepsia is caused by a variety of reasons aside from overeating or lack of a well-balanced meal
. Scientists have proven that most illnesses are stress-related and one of these is Dyspepsia or simply, indigestion. Indigestion may not be too great an issue for some people, but for most it can be a matter of life and death since it can lead to more serious digestive problems over time.
Too much stress causes the digestive system to function abnormally. When the body is experiencing stress, the adrenal glands lets out a chemical called adrenaline, to help the body cope up. Sometimes, because of adrenaline rush, the heart beats uncontrollably and that results to hyperventilation and later on heartburn and indigestion.
Muscle relaxation and proper breathing are the first two keys in releasing stress. Remember, stress can cause stomach upset and in order to get rid of stress you must learn how to keep your body relaxed when it comes. A few massages in the back and shoulders can also help ease the tension brought by stress.
Since indigestion involves both food and stress, you can incorporate some relaxation exercises in your mealtime. Just before you eat, put yourself in a calm state. Set aside for a while all the thoughts that you are worrying about and have a peace and quiet. Try as much as possible to find a quiet place for eating. A noisy background may distract your thoughts causing you to eat in a hurry, thus, leaving your food not chewed properly.
Take good care of your stomach by eating foods that are easy to chew and digest. This is very important if you have digestion problems. Prepare a healthy well-balanced meal that includes fish, oats, bread, yogurt, and fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber and avoid fatty and acidic food that can cause gastritis.
Since most stomach problems are caused by too much stress, your best defense against it is the opposite of stress, which is rest. Know how to fight stress to the best of your ability. But you must also realize that stress in this life is inevitable and the only way to beat it is to give yourself a break.
