The Long Term Benefits Of Lake Aerators
Whether you want to have a fishing lake full of hungry fish or simply want to make your environment a bit cleaner, you can benefit from lake aerators
. While lakes often aerate themselves naturally with the plant life and the bottom of the lake, sometimes this process can take a long time. The problem is often then compounded by man made pollutants disrupting the balance of the ecosystem.
Lake aeration is key to the sustained growth of life on the bottom of a lake. Without an air supply, a lake does not have the means to self purify. This is achieved naturally with the bacteria, worms and other organisms that help to clean the environment. A clean air supply in the lake ensures this process can continue. Without sufficient aeration, you get decaying plant matter that goes onto become organic sludge. This is often compounded by pollution and can wreck havoc on the lake environment, subsequently killing the lower life forms in the water.
There are two main types of lake aerators, surface and subsurface. As the name suggests, surface aerators work by disrupting the surface and removing impurities from the surface. Fountains are a good example of this, propelling the water in the air. Most fountains can only remove impurities from around 2 feet of the lake, although this can be potentially increased to around six feet with the installation of a draft tube.
Probably one of the most visible forms of surface aeration is a fountain. A fountain works by pulling water from the surface and propel it into the air. Normal fountains can aerate up to two feet below the surface, though the addition of a draft tube can increase that to around six feet. Floating surface aerators work in a similar way but they disrupt the water at the surface rather than propelling it.
In some cases a surface aerator may not be sufficient, such as the formation of potentially harmful blue green algae. A sub surface aerator will get oxygen to the bottom of the lake environment, ensuring that the bottom dwelling life gets extra oxygen. Diffused aeration systems use bubbles to aerate the lake environment.
Lake aerators not only improve the environment but can also increase the production of fish. They are often used by fisheries to help increase the size of the fish. It is estimated that as the fish get more oxygen they feed more, becoming larger by up to 33 per cent.
As well as cleaner lakes, lake aerators also benefit people interested in getting bigger fish. The increase in oxygen causes them to feed more, often growing up to 33 per cent larger. This is good for people who own fishing lakes as it means they take bait more and are therefore more likely to get caught. If you want to know more, search online to compare prices of lake aerators.
