I had no idea of the depth and seriousness of either the financial crisis facing America

, or the power and influence wielded by the big corporations, banks and power brokers in Washington he admitted. He also admitted he had made serious errors in trying to fix, patch up a system that is he now realises fundamentally and morally flawed.

He promised that given one more opportunity he would instigate the serious and fundamental changes to American policy that so many thought he would undertake during his first term in office. I will no longer accept blatant greed as an acceptable business model, he said.

We need deep and serious changes within our country and within the system that has evolved within this country he stated. Referring to the banking sector and paraphrasing J.F. Kennedy he said the time is now long past of thinking what can America do for us. Now is the time for bankers in America to consider seriously what they can do for America and Americans. He admitted that he was seriously disappointed with the banking sector, particularly after the massive help they had received.

When I came into office, he admitted, the situation in America was worse, much worse than I had realised. America was in fact very close to financial meltdown, so we scrambled under emergency conditions to put together a colossal aid package to shore up the system and to prevent possible chaos, both here in America and possibly worldwide and in hindsight this was a mistake.

I now see that the system we inherited is morally bankrupt and that rushing to fix it has not had the results we had hoped for. I do not believe that the money brokers in Washington, or the banking system in general have learnt any lessons from their near catastrophe, he went on to say. Look at the situation out of your window!

In my next two years I promise you the American people to radically overhaul the entire banking system of America, irrespective of the pressures I know we will face. Primarily banks must be made to serve the American people and not the other way round. Yes they can make a profit, but not at the expense of either the American people, or the American economy. We will remind them (the banks) of their roots as a safe haven for people to lodge their hard earned savings and a source of prudent borrowing for viable and well considered business propositions and ventures. This should and must be their mandate.

We will not rest, or be content until the banking system has been reigned in and has re-learnt its core functions and values.

Referring to big business he said he wanted to see conscience and responsibility. This is our world we are digging up and polluting, we will insist that they invest in clean technology and include in the profit and loss sheets harm inflicted on planet earth. He added that the people, the workers must be given greater respect and value and that companies must consider their workers as the key resource over and above their balance sheets within their planning strategy.

We will introduce whatever laws necessary to bring into line both banks and big corporations and we will be vigilant, he promised,

Is this going to be a major undertaking? Absolutely. Do I need your help? Completely, I am only one man and to bring about this change will need the help of every single American. Can we achieve this revolution in our society and once again re-establish an America we can all feel justly proud? Yes we can!
