The Mantis Home Garden Tiller Saves the Day

My cousin Donna always comes to the rescue!!! This time around, she saved the day with her Mantis garden tiller! Many years ago, our parents purchased a cottage on a private lake. Ever since I can remember, our families spent a good portion of the summers at the lake. Sometimes we were all together, and other times just Donna's family was at the lake, or just my family. Our parents have since passed away, but we've kept the cottage and now take our kids to it.

Donna, her husband Dan, my husband Chad and I agreed to meet at the cottage to get it ready for the summer months. When we first arrived, Chad and I were sort of surprised at how bad the outside looked. Dan had been there to mow a few times, but we didn't remember all the weeds and lumpy side lot. The weeds next to the garage were tall and thick. I tried to rip one out with my hands and gave up. Thinking I was a weakling, Chad was going to show me how to pull a weed. He bent his knees, grabbed the weed like it was a golf club, and pulled straight up. The weed didn't budge, but Chad did! He lost his balance and ended up on the ground!

After we all had a good laugh, Dan told Donna that maybe they should run home (a three hour drive each way) and get her Mantis tiller and cultivator. Dan wasn't sold on the tiller, but knew he couldn't get the weeds with the lawn mower. Donna smirked and said that she refused to drive home and that someone should've thought about the weeds in advance. Looking sheepishly, Dan agreed with her.

The guys got busy getting the canoe and rowboat out, and left Donna and me to fight with the weeds. When she was sure they were preoccupied, Donna motioned for me to follow her to their car. In the trunk was her electric garden tiller! Donna got it out, plugged it in, and tackled the weeds. She let me have a turn at it and I edged the sidewalk and the driveway! And the lumpy side lot? Donna did her magic with the tiller and it looked amazing!

We put the tiller away, grabbed two lawn chairs and sat so we could watch our husbands. After they got the boats tied to the dock (well, after Chad had to swim out and grab the canoe that was drifting away) they headed our direction. Dan was about to complain about us relaxing when there were weeds to be pulled, but he noticed that the weeds were gone! A little surprised, he asked how we did it. To which I responded with, "Oh you know, Donna's clever! She came up with a great technique!"

To this day, I don't think the guys ever figured out that Donnas amazing Mantis electric garden tiller was in the trunk of the car!!!
