The Mayan Calendar: How Significant Is 2012?

The 2012 Mayan Prophecies foretell the end of the world, which is purported to occur on December 21, 2012, to be exact. This prediction is based on Mesoamerican charting that goes back to early 680 BC. Understandably, skeptics and even the not-so-skeptic ponder on the degree of reliability of such prophecy. What kind of people are the Mayans and how did they come up with these theories and prophecies?

Mainly, it is their keen and careful observations that help them determine the turn of coming events, just like how the stars move in the skies. In fact, the Ancient Mayans were the first to discover the wobble effect caused by Earth's rotations on shifting axis, long before recent findings are now being studied and discussed. In their own way, the Mayans have already been aware about many celestial phenomena that have only been recently discovered through science.

There are many other predictions made by people other than the Mayans, which warns of the impending doomsday in December 2012. The explanations and the dire scenarios come in variances but depict the same gloom and doom, including volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, wars and other cosmic catastrophes that ultimately culminate on December 21, 2012. Even the famous Nostradamus prophecy highlighted some events that are supposed to happen in 2012. I would seem that there is reason to seriously consider the facts behind these theories.

If you are disturbed by all these 'end-of-world' talks, it may well be a good idea to do your own research and study of the Mayan Calendar. It's the only way you can determine the validity of your fears and apprehensions. It may just turn out to be just much ado about nothing, in which case you can move on and let December 2012 take its own course. Conversely, if you find out that there is something more significant that is going to take place; you can make some sort of preparations, if you think it is necessary. We do not know what 2012 holds for us, but whatever is going to happen on December 21, 2012 is going to happen, regardless of whether we believe it now or not. Therefore, live your life to the fullest while you still have time. After all, 2012 is still a few years away.
