The Milwood neighborhood in North Austin was established in 1978 and offers a peaceful atmosphere paired with plenty of community amenities, making it a great choice for young professionals and families alike. It's about 14 miles from downtown and is conveniently located between MoPac and Highway 183, giving residents an easy commute.
The neighborhood is bound by Anderson Mill to the north, McNeil Drive to the south, Research Boulevard to the west, and Parmer Lane to the east. As a resident of the neighborhood, you'll be required to be a part of the Milwood Neighborhood Association, which requires a yearly fee to cover neighborhood maintenance and events.
As you take a walk through the neighborhood, you'll discover shady lots and tree-lined streets. Many of the homes were built in the 1970s and 80s by two main builders Milburn and DR Horton. It's common to find brick exteriors and comfortable back yards, many with patios and decks so residents can take advantage of the outdoors year-round. Homes range in size from 780 square feet to more than 3,000 square feet. From January 2009 to June 2010, homes were sold at prices ranging from $95,000 to $282,000.
There are also several recreational opportunities around the area for those who like to spend time outdoors. Spanning more than 50 acres, Balcones District Park features many amenities that make it an ideal gathering spot for an evening or weekend get-together. It's home to barbeque pits, picnic tables, a volleyball court, basketball court, and playground. It also features a public swimming area and more than one mile of hiking and biking trails. At one point in the park, you can view a waterfall running through the area.
Residents of the Milwood neighborhood will find themselves just minutes from many of the conveniences they need. An H.E.B. grocery store and pharmacy is located on West Parmer Lane, about a mile from the neighborhood. The upscale Domain shopping center is also just four miles south and is home to stores like Barney's and Tiffany & Co., as well as several sit-down restaurants.
Depending on which area of the neighborhood you live in, students will attend schools in the Austin Independent School District and Round Rock Independent School District. These include Summit Elementary, Jollyville Elementary, Pond Springs Elementary, and Live Oak Elementary. Older children will attend Murchison Middle School, Deerpark Middle School, Anderson High School, or McNeil High School. There are also a selection of private schools nearby including Strickland School, Hyde Park Baptist, Cedar Park Jewish Day School, Shoreline Christian School, and more.
