The Most Important 30 Seconds of Your Career
The Most Important 30 Seconds of Your Career
If you are working in retail sales or as a host, bartender, or server in the restaurant field, your "Customers" are actually your "Clients". Are you aware of approachability and likability in your profession? Are you apprised of the need for you to make a good "1st impression"?
No, let me rephrase that. Are you apprised of the need for you to make a "great 1st impression"? Why, you might ask?
You have just 30 seconds to make a "1st impression". Fail to do that and the first opportunity to make a great impression will be lost forever. You never get a second chance to make a 1st impression. So, let's assume that you are aware of this fact. How long do you prepare for that memorable "1st impression"? I submit to you that 3 or 5 or 10 minutes may not be enough. Remember, a good 1st impression is not good enough. Replace good with great and you will be well on your way to setting the stage for future repeat business and future relationships with your new-found Clients. The 1st impression concept is easy to verbalize, but it may be extremely difficult to accomplish. So, as you are setting the stage for this great 1st impression, remember to:
Smile and make eye contact.
Use names whenever possible...both yours and theirs.
Use your manners.
Develop your voice.
Refrain from using street talk and slang. Use proper grammar and language.
Be attentive and responsive. Listen to your client...don't just hear them.
Strive to understand and anticipate your clients' needs and desires.
Know your products better than anyone else. Keep in mind; In the restaurant business, your entire menu is your product.
Remember, 30 seconds may be all that you get to make a "great 1st impression". Make those 30 seconds count and success will be within your grasp.
