The Most Important Features And Standards Of Cricket Bats

Cricket is the national sport of England and is popular among people throughout the UK

. Additionally, this team sport is played by people of many other countries such as India, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan and others. It is a game played with a ball and a bat and for this reason cricket is called a bat-and-ball sport. High quality cricket clothing, footwear and equipment including good value cricket bats, balls, helmets and bags are important when dealing with cricket as these items create additional comfort and support during intense cricket games. That is why it may be useful to learn a few facts about cricket equipment and cricket bats in particular.

The first thing to know is that cricket bats are used by batsmen who bat in a special order called a 'batting order' which is decided by the captain of the team. There can be two batsmen on the field simultaneously. The team captain usually sends the strongest batsmen to go first. After the most experienced batsmen have played any other player may be sent to bat. Batsmen may use a wide variety of strokes and shots to hit the ball. These may include cuts, drives, pulls, hooks, etc.

There are also rules concerning standards of cricket bats set by the rules of cricket. According to Law 6, they can be no more than 38 inches in length and 4.25 inches in width. What concerns their weight, there are no strict rules about it though cricket bats normally weigh from 1.1 to 1.4 kilograms. Traditionally, they are made from a type of willow wood known as Cricket Bat Willow because this type is lightweight yet tough and sturdy enough to stand rough cricket strokes and resist other shocks of the game.

Additionally, good quality cricket bats have a distinctive shape. Bats usually consist of long handles and wide blades featuring one flat side and a V-shaped edge on the other side. This unique shape provides additional strength and better results when batting. Different parts of bats bear different names. The wider parts are called the shoulders and the bottom parts of blades are called the toes of bats. This special shape hasn't always been the same. For example, in the 17th century cricket bats were similar to contemporary hockey sticks. With the appearance of the laws of cricket the peculiar shape of bats became a fixed regulation.

When choosing a good quality cricket bat, it is important to keep several issues in mind. Bats can be of different varieties, junior and senior, and it is better to buy lightweight bats for beginners. Senior bats may have professionally bowed blades and be oiled and partially knocked in order to make performance more effective. Some cricket players choose cricket bats with short blades and long handles for more powerful strokes. It is also important to buy special protective cricket bags to carry and keep bats in them.

There are a lot of other issues to learn about cricket equipment like the specific qualities of cricket clothing and the peculiar features of cricket footwear. What concerns bats, their qualities are important for effective playing and it is essential to choose them according to the standards mentioned above.
