The Motorola Flipout Is Surprisingly Well Equipped When You Consider Its Tiny Size
The recent release of the Motorola Flipout has sent out waves of controversy throughout the mobile phone industry
. The unique form factor and high spec functionality means there is quite alot to talk about. The device is packed full of messaging support and online media compatibility. You can manage your social networks and the phone is equipped with a digital camera capable of stills and video. Bluetooth allows the phone to wirelessly communicate with other phones, while A-GPS delivers support to the phones navigation features.
While in its regular touch screen form, the Flipout is ultra compact, the 2.8 inch display is very bright and has been loaded with capacitive touch technology which enables multi-touch and an accelerometer which allows the screen to rotate with the phone. A neatly tucked away QWERTY keyboard can be flipped out from behind the screen to transform the phone from a compact smartphone, to a messaging powerhouse. The keys are nicely sized and lined up in rows of five; they are also slightly raised for easier finger tapping.
Motorola have gone with there intuitive MotoBlur interface to compliment the smooth running of the Android 2.1 operating system. Both work in harmony, making for a smoother, faster and generally more pleasurable user experience. Users can also make the most of the Android Market and download additional apps and build a collection.
Web surfing is handled by the phones pre-loaded, flash compatible browser which is supported by a joint 3G, Wi Fi effort. The pair supply Flipout users with incredibly quick connectivity and fast download speeds. The social networking integration includes the link between contacts in your phonebook and friends from the likes of Facebook and Twitter. The interface also streams information from online networks to the home screen and lists them as Happenings. Motorola have given the phone e-mail and IM compatibility to give its users choice when it comes to communication.
The 3MP digital camera is good enough to handle day-to-day snaps and manages video quite well too. The Flipout is YouTube compatible so you can upload videos, and all your content can be sent straight to your social networks also. YouTube is not the only Google goodie to be found, they have included there own Instant messenger called GoogleTalk and Gmail also has its place.
Motorola have given the phone a pretty decent multimedia player; it is capable of playing a number of audio and video file types and it is supported by an expandable memory with up to 32GB microSD cards. Videos look very smooth on the QVGA screen while the built-in speaker system pumps out a really strong sound, you also have a 3.5mm AV connection which will take almost any headphones.
The Motorola Flipout is surprisingly well equipped when you consider its tiny size. It comes in a huge range of colours and the price tag is quite reasonable when you consider its performance. The MotoBlur interface is very user friendly and the Android OS allows the Flipout to run very smoothly. The tiny dimensions mean the device is pocket friendly and the keyboard is very usable.
