The Necessity Of Making A 72-hour Kit

If you are at all concerned about the future of you and your family

, chances are you would do anything to protect them from harm. This can come in many forms, but disaster prevention is one of the main ways to ensure that your family is going to stay safe and healthy no matter what happens in the future.

One way to make sure that is going to happen is by making a 72-hour kit for each member of your family, of course including yourself. Having a kit that includes food, water, medical supplies, and anything you might need in the case of a natural disaster or accident can literally save your life.

There is no way to know what the future is going to hold-a freak hurricane or earthquake could destroy your home, your food and water supply, and even leave you or your family with injuries which must be treated. However, there is a chance you will not be able to reach help or supplies for days-thus, you need to be able to provide these things for yourself.

This kit should be put together in a practical manner so that you can carry it with you if you ever need to evacuate your home. It is also important to prepare one for each member of your family who is able to carry one.

In this article we will list the recommended supplies to put in your kit. How you choose to put it together is up to you, but it is useful to put it all in an inexpensive backpack.

When it comes to food and water, you will not be able to have a refrigerator or a way to cook food, most likely, in the event of a natural disaster. For this reason, it is important to have foods that are simple, easy to store, which have a long shelf life.

Begin by keeping protein and granola bars. This will give you protein you need, if you don't have any access to meat.

Trail mix and dried fruit is another good thing to have, as it has nutritional value, protein, and vitamins which you will need. Crackers and cereals are good for munching, and can be comforting as well.

If you want to have protein which will keep but may not be so great cold, try canned tuna, beans, turkey, beef, Vienna sausages, and other canned meats. Don't forget to include a can opener!

Canned juice is another essential, as it is nutritious, comforting, and delicious. Try apple juice, which is good for digestion.

Keeping a bit of candy is another good idea, such as gum, jelly beans, jolly ranchers, or something else simple which will not melt. Having a treat will be like a million dollars if you are in need.

Keep one gallon of water, or four liters per person. Water is absolutely essential.

When it comes to other supplies, keep a simple change of clothing, including short and long sleeved shirts, pants, a jacket, socks, and underwear. A poncho might be a good idea as well.

Make sure you have a blanket, particularly a heat blanket, which keeps the warmth in. A cloth sheet and a plastic sheet is recommended.

Make sure that you have some kind of battery light, with spare batteries. A flare is a good idea in the case of an emergency, too.

Keeping candles in a cool place where they will not melt is a smart thing to do. Keep a lighter and waterproof matches as well.

Keeping a set of forks, spoons, and knifes will make eating much easier. If you have somewhere you can keep a shovel handy, even a small hand shovel, this could come in handy.

Pen and paper is also essential. Keep some duct tape, and small, sharp knife.

When it comes to actual first aid supplies, make sure to have a roll of toilet paper, a small brush, any feminine hygiene products you may need, hand sanitizer, soap, shampoo, dish soap, tooth brush, and toothpaste. Keep any medication you may need as well-make sure that you check it regularly to keep it up to date.

Aside from the survival essentials, it is a good idea to keep a set of scriptures, your legal documents, insurance policies, some cash, a pre-paid phone card, vaccination papers, and a credit card in a sealed area. You never know when these things might save your life.

As you can see, there are more items then you can imagine that will come to be absolutely essential to you in times of emergency. Keep your family save and secure by preparing now for the future.
