The Need To Initiate More Skill Development Programmes In India
It may look like we have a lot of training institutes in India
, however studies and research show a different picture. While over 12 million people join the employment cycle annually, the nation has an infrastructure to train a meager 2.5 million people.
Goes without saying, there is a strong need for a setup to be in place that offers learning opportunity to the maximum number of people. The good part is that government officials have been talking about it lately. There is a requirement for the private sector and NGOs to join hands with the government for skill development programmes.
The training and development infrastructure in India is not up to the mark. It thus becomes important that apart from governmental initiatives, private and non-profit organizations take steps in this direction. This cooperation is necessary as there is a need to impart skills and required learning to around 10 million citizens each year. And this is practically not solely achievable by government initiatives.
While the government is already working in this direction, it is critical for other sectors to offer contribution and thus help in pacing up the improvement step. Steps taken by the Indian government in this regard include the establishment of industrial training institutes (ITIs), vocational schools and skill development.
With India rapidly developing both economically and socially, the significance of skilled resources is increasing day-on-day. And with the nation having surplus of manpower, we should work towards not just increasing the number of trained labour but also aim towards making India an exporter of physical resources.
There are a number of learning centers in India, including government, private and others. These include several categories like personality development, English learning, basic computer skills, public speaking, accounting terminologies etc. There are also specific education centers in terms of particular skills and expertise, for example you have several
VMware training institutes in Delhi.
We can't deny the already setup infrastructure in place, however there is a strong need for this to be strengthened further. Not just this, it is essential to have a robust placement system too in place. Though it is good to know that placement percentage in industrial training institutes has already reached 99%, which is a great achievement in itself.
It is now crucial to do the following:
- Relevant government departments to setup more skill development institutes
- Government to work towards the maintenance and promotion of placement system
- Private sector to jump in by establishing more qualitative training centers
- Exploring areas where there is need for more development and setting up increased learning institutes in that domain
It is undeniably known and agreed that learning and development is a common force that can lead the country towards enrichment. Thus, concentration on this aspect by everyone will lead to mutual growth of the nation.
