The New Desire From HTC With Sense UI
Androids fans will undoubtedly be delighted with the excellent new handset from HTC
, the Desire. This models also benefits from the inclusion of HTC's own user interface.
Named "Sense", this makes the everyday operation of the phone not only fun, but also very functional. The HTC Desire is basically the impressive Google Nexus One handset featuring many improvements. Looks wise the devices look almost identical, which is no bad thing given the eye catching looks that the Nexus One flaunted. The unit incorporates an excellent 3.7" screen capable of displaying images in high quality WVGA resolution. The display boasts AMOLED technology rather than TFT, improving the depth of colours that can be displayed. The new Desire features an optical trackpad, offering users a nice alternative to the capacitive touchscreen. This trackpad is a more responsive option that the older trackball that was found on the Nexus One as well as on other model phones. The Desire measures 119 x 60 x 11.9mm and weighs just 135 grammes. Media facilities are great on the phone. A 5 mega pixel camera offers superb resolution pictures that benefit from an LED flash in darker conditions. If you would rather capture video then the Desire can also handle this task at a resolution of 800 x 400. The device features 512Mb of internal memory, however this is easily added to thanks to the micro SD card slot.
One thing you immediately notice upon using the
HTC Desire is just how quickly the handset operates. There is no lag in loading applications, and when scrolling across the various homescreens results are instant. This is thanks to the excellent quality processor that the device incorporates. This 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip adds real appeal to the phone, alongside the excellent Android 2.1 operating system and the excellent HTC Sense user interface. These 3 aspects works superbly together, resulting in perhaps the most satisfying user experience to be found on any phone. The Sense system does make some nice additions to the phone. The calendar for example gives you an agenda option rather than an overview of the coming month. Once you have loaded an application, a simple swipe across the bottom of the screen opens up options within that function. This is especially useful within the messaging and phonebook options. The swipe method also works on other aspects of the handset, like skipping tracks on the audio player for example. The HTC Desire is a well equipped handset. Not only will it appeal to existing Smartphone owners but it also proves the perfects handset to introduce newcomers to the high end mobile phone market.
