The New Facebook

Its time for the F8 conference and Facebook on its eve has unveiled a lot of features

that has got us having different sentiments ranging from Awesome to OMG! This is so complicated. But whatever the reactions it is more than obvious that the war of social media is on. Just like we had IE/Netscape some years back. And right after the improvements were rolled out, which started affecting the Fan Pages before the Profiles, the social media across Facebook as well as Google+ erupted with a varied range of feedbacks. Lets quickly sum up what actually these changes are.

The News Feed

The news feed: that is both the

Top Stories and Recent Stories are now together in a singular tab. The guys at Facebook says that it is just to to make sure you dont miss the anything important. The nice thing about this is that after users are logged off for a while the stories that the guys at Facebook think are interesting or those stories which were posted while we were away are highlighted with blue corners. Now the fact remains that how does Facebook decide what kind of stories or updates we like.

Customizing the feed

We can still control the feed by filtering the friends lists. Also we can Hide a particular story and the Hide all by and Unsubscribe will remove all content from that particular user and allow you to keep your news feed clean.

To unhide stories from a particular person or page which you previously unsubscribed from you have to:

1.Go to your profile Home Page and hover your mouse to the left of the side of the News Feed

2.Click on Edit

3.After that a list of people, apps, pages and groups that have been hidden or unsubscribed from in the past. Then just Save

Ticker

According to the guys at Facebook.

Ticker, on the right-hand side of your account, lets you see all your friends activity in real-time. When you hover over an item on ticker, you can see the full story and join the conversation as it happens. Ticker updates itself as as stories happen. This gives you a more complete picture of what your friends are doing, right now.

This is one heck of a feature. In other words this just transforms how people see Facebook. Generally there is a time lag for any update to come into the news feed. But through Ticker everything Is live. It is engaging but not worth it. Too much information overload.

It also adds a lot of relevance to the Facebook experience . When we are playing games, it focuses on the news associated with the games I play. When we are not playing or using any sort of app, ticker will show all the updates.
