The Nokia E5: Style, Substance & Affordability

The Nokia E Series of Smartphones is definitely one of the most successful lines of devices today

. It started by the accomplishments of the Nokia E71 a couple of years back when it was awarded numerous accolades none more prestigious than being dubbed as the Smartphone of that year.

Design

In terms of physical design, the E5 doesnt veer away from the tried and tested architecture of the E Series mobiles. However, what makes the Nokia E5 a bit different is the fact that it sports a wide metal strip right across the middle part of the device. This strip holds the E5s function buttons including the menu, cancel, home, answer call, and end call buttons. Some may find it a bit out of place, but it actually serves its purpose well.

The dimensions of the device are pretty conventional at 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm. However, what makes the E5 unique is that it comes in five different colour schemes. You can choose from Silver Grey, Copper Brown, Sky Blue, Chalk White, and Carbon Black.

Filled with Features

Perhaps what brought the E Series so much success is above everything else, its built-in features. The Nokia E5 is a tri band 3G device that also supports both HSDPA and HSUPA.

On top of this, theres also EDGE, GPRS, and of course, WLAN compatibility on the device. All these dont only guarantee enhanced voice options, but also, data connectivity prowess as well. Similar to its predecessors, the E5 also sports the familiar Symbian operating system (Series 60, version 9.3). Tasked to run the OS as well as all the other applications on the device is a competent enough 600 MHz ARM 11 processor.

What impressed us about this E Series Smartphone is its 5-Megapixel camera. While other before it settled for a functional 3-MP snapper, the E5 has brought it up a notch by installing a powerful camera with features such as fixed focus and an LED flash.

Value

Another difference between the Nokia E5 and most of its predecessors is that it comes with a relatively lower price tag. One could even put it in the category of a mid range Smartphone. Because of this, we could definitely stake a claim that the E5 offers a pretty good deal.

It isnt as expensive as most high end Smartphones out there, but still, it is able to deliver in terms of features. If what you want is a highly functional Smartphone that gets the job done and comes with a very reasonable tag then the E5 is the mobile for you. Here, value for money is key.
