The Nokia N8-an Overview

A true contender for the Smartphone crown enters the ring this summer when Nokia

release their highly anticipated and impressive looking N8 handset.

Available in a range of colour options, the Nokia N8 not only impresses with its stylish and modern looks but also in term of performance. A 3.5 OMLED screen is the first thing that stands out, producing great images and very natural colour tones thanks to the use of the LED technology. The capacitive touch screen performs better than its resistive styled counterparts, with the screen also supporting multi touch technology. An impressive colour palette of over 16 million colours can be displayed on the 360 x 640 display. An ambient light sensor is fitted in the handset, allowing for automatic display settings to be applied. Apart from the screen the handset itself features very few physical buttons. Just the single menu key can be found on the front of the unit. Dotted around the sides you will find the Camera, volume, lock and power keys.

Multimedia is certainly well represented on the Nokia N8. The standout feature is the handsets ability to record High Definition video footage. Recording in a 720P resolution at 25 frames per second, thanks to the wise move of fitting the device with an HDMI socket, this material can be easily shared on any HD compatible TV. A handy video editing suite is installed allowing the user to add captions and titles to their videos as well as music and still images. Photography is also well represented thanks a 12 Mega Pixel snapper being fitted. Benefiting from an excellent Carl Zeiss lens, the camera also boasts a host of other features including facial recognition, a digital zoom, geo tagging and autofocus. 16GB of memory is fitted on the N8, a fairly substantial amount, however this can be further enhanced with a micro SD card, with sizes up to 32GB supported. This memory will be especially useful for storing audio files, and this is a simple task thanks to a very wide range of audio formats being supported. Any headphones with a 3.5mm plug can be used with the phone, and an RDS FM radio means that should you tire of your own music, you can always tune into the radio instead.

Every once in a while a handset is unveiled that really excites true phone fans, and the Nokia N8 certainly falls into that bracket. It is difficult to fault the N8, from superb multimedia facilities to stylish and sleek looks, everything seems geared up to make this a landmark handset from the experienced manufacturers.
