The Ojays Tickets - The Ojays And Their Journey

The O'Jays were and still one of the main names in the musical face of American Pop and R&B

. Today, the group changed into a quarter as Isles passed away yet they still remain one of the most respected tickets in the world of music.

The O'Jays group was formed in 1958 during the group members' high school days. The gropu used to be known by the name "The Triumphs" and then changed to "The Mascots" until their first ticket into recording came and the name they finally used there was "Miracles." It was in 1961 that they ultimately took the name "The O'Jays".

In 1963, the group released their first nationally charting "Lonely Drifter" before their career flourished and they released more chart topping songs. Their album debuted as an LP under the title "Comin' Through."

As the O'Jays performed the song ""Lipstick Traces" on the popular show called "Shivaree", they soon became both a regional and national music ticket under the genre of soul R&B and Pop. In 1972, their first gold album came via teh resording of "Back Stabbers."

Originally, the O'Jays group was found by original members Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, Sr., and three others at McKinley High in Canton, Ohio. One member died, the other two left, and the O'Jays have spent the bulk of their career as a trio, with Eric Grant now rounding out the group.

Their rich history began when they linked up with the mighty Gamble and Huff production team of Philadelphia International Records. Their first record with them was "Backstabbers" in 1972, and the group went on to record several other pop and R&B classics of the 70's.

Over the 80s, the group's popularity streak and was still successful in redording plenty of songs under the unique brand music. were still able to release chart toppers like "For the Love Of Money" and "Put Your Hands Together." But on an unfortunate note, one of the original members will be set to depart the group because of cancer. It was William Powell.

It's reported that Eddie said that "'he's probably going to die with a mic in his hand,'" Williams told the Akron Beacon-Journal. "I'm so the opposite of that. I might die with a golf club in my hand or on the way to or coming from the golf course. But, no, I think it's time to wind it down."
