The PCA AmFar Charity Event Rundown

A total of 58 players competed at the Atlantis Hotel & Casino, including Austin Powers star Verne Troyer, former NBA basketball star John Salley, former LA Dodgers pitchers Chad Billingsley and Orel Hershiser, pro golfer Sergio Garcia, TV personality Ricki Lake, Entourage star Kevin Dillon, 2008 Playmate of the Year Nicole Jayde and Spanish football legend Poli Rincon in the recently concluded Pokerstars Carribbean Adventure Celebrity Poker Tournament.

The second annual PCA amfar event was organized to raise funds for AIDS research on Paradise Island in Bahamas. Poker players get to ejoy the casino poker event while contributing to amfar's research. AmFar chairman Kenneth Cole deliver a short speech before the start of the tournement saying, "Tonight is a really big deal. Everyone gets to do what they enjoy doing and at the same time, will be part of something very important. We are flattered PokerStars has got involved for a second year. Five thousand people died every day from AIDS but it doesn't need to be like that."

A number of Team Pros from the online poker site also took part including 2010 WSOP Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel, 2009 champ Joe Cada, 2004 champ Greg Raymer and EPT San Remo champion Liv Boeree.

Prize pool went straight to the charity, and PokerStars matched all personal donations made by the tournament's participants. Aside from the prize pool players could make donations via PokerStars.net to benefit the Foundation's innovative HIV/AIDS research programs. Adding to the prize pool and the donations made by the players, Pokerstars also donated $50,000 to amfar and they also accepted donations from the spectators. With the good cause and the fun of playing poker, its no doubt that celebrities and poker pros come together for the event and support PCA and amfar's poker tournament.
