The term of sexting has come around in recent years and is steadily becoming a huge issue with the teen youth of today
. The term means that teens that are sharing nude photos and videos of themselves and others via email, cell phone, or the Internet. This sort of behavior is illegal and could have your teen in serious trouble with the law if caught. Now when I say teen I mean a boy or a girl that is below the legal adult age of eighteen, and there have been many cases that a member of the sexting group is over the age of eighteen and one of the recipients gets caught with the racy photo of the person and lands him or herself in serious trouble with the law and probably their own parents as well.
Since the sexting problem has exploded there have been many that have to seek some sort of counseling for what has transpired and getting their questions answered on how to handle the situation can be difficult. Teens in general feel that they are grown up enough to do things like this but in reality they are not. They will need us a parents for guidance in many situations that occur in life and will continue this for much of their life.
Advice for your teen is something that most of the time you should offer when learning of a situations they are involved in. If it involves sexting some suggest that you lay down some ground rules on the use of your communication devices like your cell phone and computer. No matter how fun your teen feels sexting is, there is probably someone out there getting hurt because of it. Some children and teens in particular are mean in spirit and will do and say anything to make someone unhappy or create some invalid rumor about someone else. This we will cover in another article.
Unfortunately, despite all of the warnings that continue to come in about the dangers of teens sexting, parents are challenged to try to prevent this type of activity and keep their children from getting involved because it only takes one little mishap for their child to land in jail and to be branded as a child molester or a sex offender. Just the act of a child putting nude photos up on the Internet of minors is constituted as child pornography and will get them in serious dealings with the police. Be diligent in informing your son or daughter about the dangers of sexting and maybe something will click and they will not try it at all.
